What is Multi-Tenant SaaS?
Multi-tenant SaaS is a software-as-a-service architecture where a single software instance serves many customer organizations (tenants) on shared infrastructure. Each tenant's data is isolated through application-layer logic rather than separate servers, allowing the provider to scale cost-efficiently across thousands of customers.
How Multi-Tenant SaaS Works
A multi-tenant SaaS application runs on shared servers, databases, and infrastructure. When users log in, the application identifies their tenant ID and isolates their data, configurations, and branding from other tenants. Logical separation replaces physical separation. This makes multi-tenant SaaS dramatically more cost-effective than single-tenant deployments.

This architecture lets the platform support thousands of resellers without per-reseller infrastructure costs, keeping wholesale prices low enough to support reseller margins.

Multi-tenant architectures isolate customer data through application-layer access controls, database row-level filtering, and tenant-specific encryption keys. Properly implemented multi-tenant SaaS is just as secure as single-tenant for most use cases.
